A bushy shrub with glossy, dark evergreen leaves that sometimes turn vibrant reds and oranges in winter. Small fragrant white flowers in late spring, followed by red fruit ripening to black. Height and spread to around 5m x 3m. Best in a position sheltered from strong winter winds in fertile neutral to slightly acidic soil.
