Alpine violet. Wonderful for naturalising under trees and in shade. Masses of purple flowers appear from late summer until Christmas. Leaves (often marbled) appear midway through the flowering season and remain until spring. They then disappear leaving only the springy seedheads above ground. Easy to grow.
