Introduced in 2010 from Japan as a chance seedling this has sumptuous chocolate coloured leaves, hence it's name. In early summer, plumes of white tinged pink flowers stand upto 90cm tall. Height and spread to around 0.9m x 0.5m. Moist soil in sun to part shade. Looks fantastic when planted in drifts. Grows well with sedge grasses and candelabra primulas and Rodgersias
