Persian Ironwood Tree. The oval, serrated, leaves are deep purple when young, maturing to a rich green colour, then dark-red and violet-red in autumn. When the tree is mature, the bark will begin to peel and flake which adds winter interest after leaf fall. Height and spread after 10 years to around 4m x 3m. Any fertile, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Colours best on acid soils.
