A vigorous growing clematis that needs to be pruned hard back in spring. Plant on a south or west facing wall, or grow up an obelisk in a border, or in a container. Pinch the growing tips out frequently to encourage flowers right from the base of the plant. Masses of dark purple flowers that appear almost black through the summer. One of the best of all the viticellas.
