Native to central and western china this plant has been a favourite in english gardens for many years. Fragrant royal purple flowers are produced in panicles from june to august. Leaves are dark green above, woolly white beneath and long and pointed in shape. Thrives on any well drained soil in sun or part shade. A very easy plant to grow and great for wildlife (especially butterflies and bees). Prune all davidii's hard in March. If left to grow without pruning can reach a height of 15ft (5m) and a spread of the same.
