Lush, deep green glossy foliage held on cinnamon red, rhubarb like stems. Spikes of cream, purple, lavender and violet flowers held on stout stems in late summer. Any soil in sun or shade. Height and spread to around 0.6m x 0.9m. A useful and little known tropical feel foliage plant that has been growing in the gardens at the Wofford college in South Carolina since the civil war, believed to have been planted by it's founder Benjamin Wofford.
