Service tree. Rarely seen these days but a tree full of character with pinnate green leaves that orange-red or yellow tints in autumn. Fruits are either pear shaped f. pyrifera or apple shaped f. pomifera and are edible straght from the tree but better as jams, jellies or left as a valuable food source for birds. Medium sized tree with a rounded crown reaching between 12 and 20m tall at maturity. Atttractive brown scaly bark like that of a pear tree. These trees are from seed collected at Kew gardens where both f. pomifera and f. pyrifera grow so could be either.
