Hedychium gardnerianum (3lt)

Large rounded lanceolate shaped glaucous green leaves are arranged alternately on stiff upright stems that can grow to between 1.5 to 2.5m tall. Unlikely to get much taller than 1.5m in the UK. In late summer sweetly scented creamy yellow flowers with red/orange stamens are borne in terminal clusters.  This variety is surprisingly hardy and should be fine left outside in well drained fertile soil and given a deep autumn mulch.  In very exposed areas lift and store the rhizomes during winter.
