Unusual evergreen with large, broadly lanceolate leaves that are almost white beneath and shiny green on top. They are attached to the stems with dark red leaf stalks and emerge from dark red buds. Stunning in winter. Small insignificant pinkish green flowers in summer followed by dark blue/black berries if both male and female plants are present. Height and spread to around 5m x 3m. Humus rich, neutral to acid soil sheltered from strong winds.
