Franklin tree. Very rare tree suited for experienced gardeners. Sweetly scented white flowers with yellow stamens in late summer and spectacular autumn foliage. Requires a sheltered position in sun to light shade with humus rich ericaceous soil. Can be difficult to establish and may need protection from late frosts. Height and spread 4-6m x 2-4m. Extinct in the wild and all plants are descended from seed collected by John Bartram in the early 1700s and named in honor of his friend Benjamin Franklin.
