Huge, broadly ovate leaves with hairy undersides and a purple midrib are held by crimson stalks. The leaves are one of the main attractions to the Chinese necklace poplar. Large greeny yellow catkins are followed by woolly necklace like fruits. Fast growing with a height and spread to around 20m x 10m. Any soil (not too boggy) in sun or shade. Do not plant over drains or within 15m of buildings.
