Hawthorn. A broad headed tree with mid green leaves and thorny branches. Scented white flowers form in clusters in late spring and are followed by edible red fruit. Used to be known as the bread and cheese plant in times of hardship where parents would encourage their children to eat the berries on their way to and from school to cut down on food bills! Great for hedging. Height and spread to 8m x 5m.
