Glossy burgundy coloured foliage appears in spring and from mid to late summer tall spikes of bright scarlet flowers brighten up any border. Mulch the crown to give it some protection in winter. If planted in a boggy site it is best to lift the crown and overwinter in a pot in a cold greenhouse.
