Akebia longaerocemosa B&SWJ 3606 (2lt)

Select form of chocolate vine from Taiwan with vanilla scented maroon flowers in April and May. A twining and unusual climber. Sometimes has rather showy blue-purple fruits the shape of mini baguettes. When ripe they pop open to reveal a pure white interior with seeds encased in an edible jelly that tastes like a melon. Male and female flowers are produced on the same plant but pollination aids are required by insects or a brush! Moist humus rich soil in shade or part shade. Height and spread to 5m x 4m but can be trained to much smaller spaces.
