Gardening Assistant vacancy (3 roles)

 

Langthorns Plantery is a retail plant centre based in Little Canfield, Dunmow, Essex. Established since 1977 and set in beautiful countryside.  

We are currently looking for two or three seasonal members of staff to join our small and friendly team.  Candidates should be enthusiastic, energetic and reliable and also have a passion for plants.  This is a great opportunity for enthusiastic, budding horticulturalists to vastly increase their knowledge of plants and how they grow.

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for general plant and grounds maintenance with early morning and evening watering shifts an essential part of the role.  A knowledge of plants and experience of using a variety of gardening tools would be an advantage but it is not essential as training can be provided. 

Three month contract – June to August 2018 with possible extension into Autumn. 

Five days per week (upto 40 hours) to include some weekends on a shift rota.

Pay £7.80 per hour plus accommodation available.if needed.

On site accommodation is provided in a modern static mobile home surrounded by open countryside, 3 double bedrooms, heating, TV, lounge and fully equipped kitchen.  The accommodation off set rate is £6.40 per day.

Groundsperson/Gardener - West Wratting, Cambridgeshire

A private estate requires a full time Gardener who needs to be a hardworking, flexible individual required to tend extensive grounds of a large country house. The gardens extend to 20 acres, including walled kitchen garden, exotic glasshouse plants, rose garden, herbaceous borders, woodland walks etc. 

 

Duties will include: 

  • Lawn maintenance; fertilising, weed killing and mowing. 

  • Rough grass cutting, low level tree work, hedge maintenance, gravel drive/terrace maintenance, general weeding and border edging. 

  • Swimming pool maintenance including chemical balancing, and pool cleaning/ hovering. 

  • An excellent knowledge of herbaceous, house plants and orchid and rose collections 

  • • Experience in using large ride on mowers/small tractors and chain saws (with appropriate certification) would be a distinct advantage. 

  • You will need to have previous experience of working and running a walled garden, knowledge of growing a wide range of vegetable/fruit crops on a largely organic basis, able to plan for and deliver quality produce over an extended season. 

  • An eye for detail for the formal gardens, including the ability to manage all the ordering and re-stocking as when required is key. 

  • Provision and maintenance of house flowers as directed 

 

Applications are sought from suitably qualified enthusiastic gardeners with relevant horticultural qualifications and appropriate experience in a similar role. Enthusiasm, versatility and self-motivation are also needed, together with a willingness to support other team members as required. Knowledge of orchid growing and basic floristry skills would be an advantage. 

 

Salary to be negotiated on experience.
